Friday I'm in Love: Sweetie Pie Press

One of the things that had me looking forward to moving back to Toronto was the city's craft community.  As soon as I discovered it, I quickly added Toronto Craft Alert to my Google Reader - months before the actual move!  I was excited to find out about City of Craft, shops like The Knit Café, and of course, The Workroom.  I got the impression that the craft community in Toronto was more accessible, or at least more trackable, than I found London's to be (it's got double the population after all).  I was looking forward to seeing Toronto's craft community in action and perhaps even meeting some of its members.  Cue the Hunt and Gather Trunk Show which gave me a chance to see some wonderful local crafts in person.  I also got to meet Becky from The Sweetie Pie Press and ogle her lovely, lovely buttons and even score some for myself.  So for this week's Friday I'm in Love feature, I'm going to show off my new buttons!

 

My very own security envelope buttons, which I blogged about a while back!  Becky generously gave me a set of my choice when she found out that I had contributed to her project.  Score!  I've decided that I'm going to use the colours in these buttons as a jumping off point for a sewing project.  I want to make myself a spring/summer bag so I'm going to look for fabrics in these colours and an easy pattern.  I think purple and grey will look very cool together, so I'm hoping I can find some cool fabrics for this project.

I bought two buttons from Becky as well, even though it was hard to choose just two! The 'give more' button above is already on my black bag and I love the way it adds another "thought bubble" to my Dinosaur Comics button.  Thanks for the advice T-Rex!  The second button I bought is one of her chiyogami buttons, which I believe are also sold at The Paper Place.  This one will be gifted to a friend though, so no pics - sorry.  Suffice to say, it's lovely!

I was really glad to be able to see Toronto's crafty scene in action last weekend and I'm really looking forward to experiencing it even more.  In fact, I plan on attending another crafty happening this Sunday and I promise to blog all about it next week!

The Workroom in/and the Press

Before I sign off for the weekend, I wanted to direct your attention to an article about the Toronto craft community, featuring The Workroom, which I posted about earlier this week.  Also featured in the article is The Sweetie Pie Press, which I found out about when its creator/owner put out a call to the crafting community for security envelopes for her amazing project.  Isn't it the coolest?  I'm super pleased that I could contribute to it.

These are the sorts of things and people that make me even more excited to be moving to Toronto (besides being closer to friends and family of course).
